Sampling Objective (e.g. Why you are sampling and what you hope to learn)
Students will investigate the relationship between acid rain and health in the Camden City area, compare the pollution generated from landfills with incineration techniques and the relationship between the produced pollutants and health. In addition, they will investigate the relationship between ozone levels and athletes with asthma.
What parameters are you sampling for? (e.g. N02, CO, C02)
We will sample for O3, NO2, and particulates.
Describe the Method of Data Collection - (Include the frequency, duration and location of monitoring.)
For testing indoor air quality, specific locations in the school will be ued focusing on particulate matter and SO2 levels. The test period will be for nine days.
For ozone monitoring, tests will be conducted for both one hour and eight hour periods of time. Students will collect data in the school and in the surrounding neighborhood.
Explain how you will establish background levels of sampling parameters.
Tests will be run for 21 consecutive days.
How will you teach scientific concepts?
Activities and information will be incorporated into the Secondary Environmental Curriculum used by Camden City Schools.
