Project Plan

El Puente High School

Sampling Objective (e.g. Why you are sampling and what you hope to learn)

We will be sampling for carbon dioxide, temperature, and relative humidity, and we are going to try this experiment to find out what is the air quality in the gym. When people are playing sports in the gym, they become very hot and also breathe at a faster rate producing more carbon dioxide. Because there are no windows in the gym, there is very poor ventilation. For this reason, we hypothesize that the levels of CO2 and the temperature and humidity will become unacceptable near the end of a gym class.: However, we also predict that the levels will return to normal quickly once the doors are open and everyone leaves.

What parameters are you sampling for? (e.g. N02, CO, C02)

We will be sampling for Carbon Dioxide, Temperature and Relative Humidity.

Describe the Method of Data Collection - (Include the frequency, duration and location of monitoring.)

We will monitor for the above parameters during gym class on Thursdays or any other date that we have gym at Boricua College.

We will set the air monitor up in the gym:

We will carry out the experiment three times to see if we get consistent results.

Explain how you will establish background levels of sampling parameters.

To establish background levels, we will use the data collected before the class when no one has been in the gym for at least 24 hours.
